Founded in 1944, the centre is also the Women and Children’s Hospital of Chongqing Medical University and the Chongqing Institute of Genetics and Reproduction. In 2021 it handled 1.9 million outpatient visits and about 17,000 births — the most in Chongqing — and 17,021 IVF transfer cycles, the most in western China.
Its reproductive centre was the first in China approved by the Ministry of Health to provide assisted reproduction and saw the birth of western China’s first IVF baby; more than 56,000 IVF babies have been born, with a clinical pregnancy rate of about 60%. It is also known for foetal intrauterine treatment and care of very premature babies.
