Founded in 1956 when the paediatrics department of Shanghai Medical College moved to Chongqing, the hospital is one of China’s first national key paediatric disciplines. It has about 2,480 beds and 2.9 million outpatient visits a year, nearly 40% of patients coming from outside Chongqing.
It is the only children’s hospital in China licensed for liver transplantation, and is known nationally for primary immunodeficiency, cord-blood stem-cell therapy, congenital heart intervention, interventional pulmonology, epilepsy surgery and HIFU for childhood solid tumours. It has led all Chinese paediatric institutions in National Natural Science Foundation grants for ten consecutive years.
