Founded in October 1963 as one of the first four cancer hospitals of the People’s Republic, the hospital has about 1,910 beds and eight academicians among its experts. It leads a national regional cancer medical centre and ranked third among cancer hospitals in China’s first national public-hospital performance review in 2020.
Multidisciplinary teams cover all common cancers. The Chinese Academy of Sciences’ Institute of Basic Medicine and Cancer is based here, and the National Heavy Ion (Hangzhou) Clinical Research Center is being built at the hospital.
