Founded in 1951, the hospital is Zhejiang’s largest children’s hospital and the National Clinical Research Center for Child Health and Disorders as well as a national children’s regional medical centre. It has 2,900 beds on three campuses and in 2024 handled 4.2 million outpatient visits and 43,000 operations.
It leads China in critical neonatal care, birth-defect treatment, robotic surgery for children (771 cases in 2024 alone), paediatric organ transplantation and ECMO. It was the first children’s hospital in China to use CD19 CAR-T cells for refractory childhood lupus, and ranked second among children’s hospitals in the 2022 national performance review.
