Founded in 1957 as China’s first specialist hospital for heart, lung, oesophageal, tracheal and mediastinal disease, Shanghai Chest Hospital performs more than 15,000 cardiothoracic operations a year, over 90% of them complex level 3 or 4 procedures. Its thoracic surgeons perform the most robotic thoracic operations in China.
Its atrial-fibrillation ablation programme is the largest in the Asia-Pacific region, and early diagnosis and multidisciplinary treatment of lung cancer are at international level. It was the first and only Center of Excellence of the Asian Thoracoscopic Education Program in mainland China and runs an international fellowship programme.
