Ruijin Hospital was founded in 1907 as Guangci (St. Marie’s) Hospital and is now affiliated with Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine. It is one of Shanghai’s largest hospitals and a national leader in several specialties.
Physicians and scientists associated with Ruijin and the Shanghai Institute of Hematology developed the use of all-trans retinoic acid and arsenic trioxide for acute promyelocytic leukemia, turning a once highly fatal leukemia into one of the most curable. Today the hospital is also a major center for endocrinology, metabolic disease and many surgical specialties.
