Shanghai

Shanghai combines several of China's top university hospitals, affiliated with Fudan University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University, with one of the country's largest concentrations of international clinics.

Shanghai is home to leading teaching hospitals for cancer, cardiology, neurosurgery, hematology and pediatrics, as well as the Shanghai Proton and Heavy Ion Center. Because the city has a large international community, English-speaking services are easier to find here than in most Chinese cities.

Practical tips

  • Shanghai has two airports: Pudong (PVG) for most international flights and Hongqiao (SHA), which is next to the main high-speed railway station.
  • The metro network reaches almost every major hospital.
  • Summers are hot and humid; winters are mild but damp.
