Renji Hospital was founded in 1844, the year after Shanghai opened as a treaty port, making it the city’s first Western-medicine hospital. Today it is a teaching hospital of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine with East, West, South and North campuses and the Shanghai Cancer Institute.
