Founded in 1958 as the paediatric institute of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, the institute opened its affiliated children’s hospital in 1986. The hospital has about 600 open beds and in 2024 handled 2.75 million outpatient visits and 13,000 operations; respiratory medicine and critical care are national key clinical specialties.
It is a national centre for minimally invasive paediatric surgery and for critically ill children, and is known for choledochal cyst, biliary atresia, anorectal malformations, Hirschsprung’s disease and paediatric liver transplant, as well as childhood asthma and rheumatology. A new Tongzhou campus is due to open in 2027.
