The hospital began as the Renji Dental Clinic in Chengdu in 1907; in 1917 West China Union University opened China’s first school of dentistry. It is the National Clinical Research Center for Oral Diseases and the national dental centre for western China, with eight national key clinical specialties covering all of its main clinical departments.
It hosts the State Key Laboratory of Oral Diseases and publishes the International Journal of Oral Science, the first SCI-indexed English-language dental journal from China.
