Founded in 1941 as the affiliated hospital of the National Central University medical school, the hospital merged with the Sichuan Academy of Medical Sciences in 2002. It has about 6,500 staff and national key clinical specialties in laboratory medicine, clinical nursing, nephrology, emergency medicine, critical care and clinical pharmacy.
As the seat of the Sichuan emergency centre and a network hospital of International SOS, it leads disaster response in the province; after the 2015 Nepal earthquake its team was China’s first and largest government medical team abroad. The Sichuan-Hong Kong Rehabilitation Centre, funded by Hong Kong, opened here in 2013.
