The hospital began as a German Catholic mission hospital in 1897 and became Shandong Provincial Hospital in 1948. It has two main campuses with about 3,900 beds and 6,500 staff; in 2021 it handled 4.4 million visits and 146,000 operations.
Its assisted reproduction is at international level, and it is a national leader in living-donor liver transplant, type I aortic dissection, minimally invasive VSD closure and ear and skull-base surgery. It has 11 national key clinical specialties and is Shandong’s lead hospital for rare diseases, offering an international medical clinic.
