The hospital began as the Central Tuberculosis Research Institute and Hospital and is now affiliated with Capital Medical University. It hosts the WHO Collaborating Centre for TB Research and Training, the China CDC clinical centre for TB control, the Beijing lung cancer centre and the Beijing bone and joint TB centre.
It pioneered short-course chemotherapy for TB in China, carried out China’s first national drug-resistant TB survey, performed China’s first human lung transplant and established China’s first human lung cancer cell line. It ranks No. 1 in China for tuberculosis.
