Founded in 1946 as the Bao’an County People’s Hospital, it took its present name when the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone was created in 1979. It is a teaching hospital of Jinan University and Southern University of Science and Technology, with campuses in Luohu, Longhua and Longgang.
Its minimally invasive surgery was among the first in China to spread across all surgical specialties; it performed Guangdong’s first living-donor liver transplant in an infant in 2003, and it is the city’s cancer diagnosis and treatment centre. Its health-management centre ranks No. 9 in China.
