Founded in 1946 and also known as the Guangdong Academy of Medical Sciences, the hospital runs two branches, six outpatient centres and six research institutes, with 12 national key clinical specialties. Its Guangdong Cardiovascular Institute is one of China’s largest heart centres.
The hospital has performed more than 120 heart transplants since 1998, carried out the world’s first intrapartum foetal heart surgery and China’s first foetal cardiac intervention. It works with Mayo Clinic, Massachusetts General Hospital and centres in Canada, Australia, Israel and Denmark.
