Opened in 1957 beside Yingze Lake in central Taiyuan, the hospital has about 2,400 open beds (3,000 approved) and nearly 4,000 staff. It has national key clinical specialties in general surgery, urology, critical care, emergency medicine and geriatrics, and a national key laboratory for pneumoconiosis.
It was among the first national atrial-fibrillation centres and top-100 advanced stroke centres, introduced robotic surgery to Shanxi and performs about 20 liver transplants a year. Its nuclear medicine department is ranked No. 7 in China.
