Founded in 1949 as part of the PLA’s First Military Medical University and later the clinical college of Norman Bethune Medical University, the hospital took its present name when it joined Jilin University in 2000. It was the first hospital in Jilin rated Grade 3A.
It has nearly 6,000 beds, 8,600 staff, 3.7 million outpatient visits a year and 17 national key clinical specialties, and runs an international health promotion centre and a phase I clinical-trial ward. It is nominated in 11 Fudan specialty lists, including neurosurgery, neurology, haematology, endocrinology and infectious diseases.
