Opened in 1998, the hospital is Zhejiang’s only Grade 3A eye hospital, with campuses in Wenzhou and Hangzhou and 11 branches across China. In 2018 it handled 852,000 outpatient visits and nearly 60,000 operations.
It invented the combined ophthalmology-optometry degree known internationally as the “Wenzhou model”, hosts a national clinical research centre and state key laboratory, and leads China’s engineering research centre for myopia prevention and treatment. It is known for optometry, refractive surgery, corneal disease and eye-nose surgery, and developed its own excimer laser system.
