Visa and entry

Under the China–Kazakhstan mutual visa exemption agreement, in force since 10 November 2023, holders of ordinary Kazakh passports can stay in China for up to 30 days per entry and 90 days within any 180 days. Medical treatment is one of the permitted purposes (National Immigration Administration).

Getting there

There are direct flights from Almaty and Astana to Beijing and to Urumqi, and connections onward to Shanghai and Guangzhou.

Choosing a hospital

For complex cancer, heart and neurological conditions, the national leaders in Beijing and Shanghai offer the deepest experience. See the rankings by specialty and the hospital profiles in our guide.

Language and coordination

Russian-speaking coordinators translate records, book appointments and arrange interpreters. Kazakh-language support can be arranged on request.

Payment

Pay-as-you-go is standard in Chinese public hospitals. Kazakh Visa and Mastercard cards can usually be linked to Alipay or WeChat Pay; bring some cash in yuan for deposits.

Before you travel

Send your medical summary, scans in DICOM format and laboratory results for a specialist review before you book.
